COMIFAC Welcomes Financial Commitments Made by the International Community to Support Central African Forest Ecosystems

LIBREVILLE, November 4 (Infosplusgabon) - According to a  press  release, the Central African Forest Commission (COMIFAC), a convergence organization specific to the ten countries in the subregion of Central Africa responsible for standardizing forest and environmental policies and coordinating conservation and sustainable forest ecosystem management efforts, has been promised $1.5B in funding to preserve Central African forest ecosystems.

Congo : African Union urged to address the threat of Congo forest logging driving extreme weather across sub-Saharan Africa

LIBREVILLE, October 24 (Infosplusgabon) -  Industrial logging in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) may severely disturb rainfall patterns across sub-Saharan Africa and bring about more extreme weather, including intense droughts and flash floods. In a letter sent today to the African Union, Greenpeace Africa is calling for an urgent discussion of the consequences that plans made in Kinshasa to lift its moratorium on logging would have for Congolese and African people in general.

USA : Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Commits up to $120 Million to Accelerate Access to COVID-19 Drug for Lower-Income Countries

LIBREVILLE, October 20 (Infosplusgabon) -  The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced today a commitment of up to $120 million to accelerate access to the investigational antiviral drug molnupiravir for lower-income countries as part of its COVID-19 response effort. The funding will be allocated based on consultations with partners, and will support the range of activities required to develop and manufacture generic versions of the drug, which is being developed by Merck & Co in collaboration with Ridgeback Biotherapeutics.
