Gabon : Economic forum in Gabon to attract political, business leaders in 2015

LIBREVILLE, Jan 10 (Infosplusgabon) -  The 4th edition of the New York Forum AFRICA, a pan-African economic forum, will bring together more than 1,500 political and business leaders, as well as companies and members of the media on 29-31 May, 2015 in Libreville, Gabon.

The statement obtained by Infosplusgabon, said the forum with the theme: "Invest in the Energy Continent", is being organized in conjunction with the President of Gabon, Ali Bongo Ondimba.

It said that the forum would focus on the new dynamism in the continent, its entrepreneurs, economic and investment opportunities, the growing energy sector, job creation, as well as education and innovation, to draw up a roadmap for the continent’s transformation.

It noted that participants would take part in action-orientated debates and panels, as well as sector-specific breakout sessions and workshops to define concrete actions for sustainable and efficient investment into the energy of the continent.

The statement also said the forum would serve as a meeting place for business and political stakeholders to foster partnerships and investment opportunities.

The forum will also host the second edition of the African Citizen Summit will focus on job creation and enterprise in Africa.

The statement disclosed that the forum would follow the first edition of The Climate South Initiative (CSI), taking place on 28-29 May in Libreville, Gabon, with the goal of defining the role of the global South in addressing climate change and framing actionable solutions in the run-up to UN Conference of the Parties (COP 21) in Paris in December 2015.

It said that the Climate South Initiative will gather more than 800 global leaders from government, business, NGOs, academia, civil society, youth and media to discuss the opportunities and challenges presented by climate change.

"This Initiative, under the high patronage of President Ali Bongo Ondimba will offer a platform for proactive leaders to discuss the opportunities to enable adaption to current impacts, and mitigation of future effects of climate change.

"The objective for the diverse countries from the South will be to create momentum for equitable solutions and to take their share of responsibility in the fight against climate change," it stated.

The statement also said that the initiative was designed to encourage informal dialogue, and would be a platform for sharing the diverse perspectives and knowledge across countries from the Southern continents – Africa, Middle-East, Asia and Latin America.

"Following their discussions, the participants will adopt a common declaration that will feed into UNFCC’s 21st Conference of Parties meeting scheduled in Paris in December 2015 (COP21)," it added.
