Algiers, Algeria, December 31  (Infosplusgabon) - The Algerian Energy Minister, Mustapha Guitouni, on Saturday announced plans to export electricity to Libya and Tunisia.

He unveiled the plans at a news conference on the sidelines of a working visit to Oran, western Algeria, saying that there could also be increases in electricity prices in the future. The price increases, he said, will not affect small consumers but concerns large consumers.

He said his ministry is studying the possibility of exporting considerable quantities of electricity to Libya and Tunisia, saying that Algeria is negotiating with Libya to export to the latter 2,300 megawatts.

Guitouni also indicated that Algeria has invested US$ 150 billion since 2000 for the realization of power plants throughout the country, bringing the capacity of the national production to 18,000 megawatts against the 3,900 megawatts produced in 2000.
