Sudan denounces gunmen attack on Egyptian church

Khartoum, Sudan, December 30 (Infosplusgabon) - Sudan has denounced Friday's attack by gunmen against worshipers in an Egyptian Church of Marmina, Halwan, in the outskirts of Cairo, which left at least 10 people dead.

 

In a statement, Sudan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the attack as “a terrorist aggression that violates all moral and human values and principles.”

 

Sudan has expressed its condolences to bereaved families and support to those injured in the attack, wishing them quick recovery.

 

According to the statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Sudan’s full solidarity and support for Egypt “in all actions it takes to preserve the security and peace of its citizens against all terrorist and criminal attacks.”

 

The statement said, “this terrorist operation that contravenes all lofty religions, customs and international laws, reaffirms anew the need for bringing together regional and international efforts for stand against and counter this dangerous phenomenon.”

 

Reports from Cairo said two police officers who tried to stop the gunmen were among those killed. Islamist militants have increasingly targeted the Coptic Christian community, carrying out attacks on churches.

 

Egypt has witnessed a massive spike in attacks against the country's Coptic Christian community and its places of worship over the past year.
