South Africa musician dead at 47

Cape Town, South Africa, December 26 (Infosplusgabon) - Tributes are pouring in for top South African musician Robbie Malinga who died in Johannesburg on Christmas Day following a long illness.

 

He was 47 years old. Malinga was being treated for anaemia.

 

The Soweto-born singer found fame with his smash hits Insimbi Sobabili, Mthanda and Baby Please. His honours included the South African Music Award for Best Remix of the Year and the South African Music Award for Best Produced Album.

 

Music producer TK Nciza described him as "the Hugh Masekela of our time".

 

Cabinet Minister Nathi Mthetwa said government is heartbroken to learn the news of the untimely passing of the legendary musician.

 

“We have lost an illustrious Kwaito pioneer who paved the way for future generations of artists. We send our deepest sympathies to his loved ones,” he said.
