Accra, Ghana, December 25 (Infosplusgabon) - Today is Christmas, the day on which Christians throughout the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, who they believe was sent by God for the salvation of man.

Many churches in Ghana on the eve of Christmas on Sunday held services where there were re-enactments of the birth of Jesus, who Christians believe, was conceived of the Holy Spirit of God and born through a young virgin called Mary.

Worshipers also held festivals of Nine Lessons and Carols to usher in Christmas.

In Ghana churches will be filled to capacity on Monday as Christians mark the birth of Jesus more than 2,000 years ago in Bethlehem.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, in his Christmas message, said there were brighter days ahead for all Ghanaians.

He said he was aware of the challenges that had plagued Ghanaians over the past 11 months under his tenure, but he would devote his energy towards creating a free and prosperous nation for all.

“I am aware of the many challenges that confronted Ghanaians this year. We should not see the economic difficulties of today as the blueprint of our tomorrow. There are brighter days ahead. We should continue to stay united and focus on the things that can help us construct the road to our brighter future,” the president said.

Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church, during a Christmas eve mass, again highlighted the plight of migrants and said that faith demands that foreigners are welcomed everywhere.
