Kigali, Rwanda, December 19 (Infosplusgabon) -  Kandt House, the first museum established in memory of the explorations and discoveries of Richard Kandt, a Germany colonialist who became the first European resident of Rwanda, opened to the public in Kigali on Tuesday, two days after its official inauguration.

Located in Cyahafi, a suburb of Kigali city,  the museum covers a collection of permanent galleries with several works of arts also on display.

PANA recalls that Dr. Richard Kandt embarked on the first discovery journey to Rwanda in 1897, searching for the sources of the Nile.

In 1907, Dr. Kandt, a German physician, was appointed the first Resident Governor of Rwanda, establishing his administrative residence in Kigali town.

He died in Nuremberg in 1918, reports said.

In memory of the explorations and the discoveries of Dr Kandt, his former residence in a suburb of Kigali, is now a Museum of Natural History of Rwanda.
