Tanzania reaffirms position on Jerusalem

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, December 14 (Infosplusgabon) - Tanzania on Thursday reaffirmed its position regarding the historic city of Jerusalem following what it regarded as "speculations and misrepresentation in some media".

In a press statement, Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Minister Augustine Mahiga said Tanzania supports the United Nations stance on the two states solution allowing Israel and Palestine to co-exist side by side with secure shared borders by the two states.

“Tanzania is part of the mainstream international consensus which recognises the rights of the Palestinian people to East Jerusalem based on the pre-1967 borders.

“Tanzania has established diplomatic presence in Israel with its Embassy in Tel Aviv and confirms that the Embassy will continue to operate from there,” he affirmed.
