Kenya gears up for Kakamega Forest Marathon

Nairobi, Kenya, November 18 (Infosplusgabon) - Kenya is gearing up for the third edition of the Kakamega Forest Marathon on 25 November in Kakamega County, western Kenya.

Among the key sponsor of the event, whose proceeds will go towards preserving the forest, which is the eastern fringes of the greater Congo Forest, is the Water Services Trust Fund (WSTF).

The forest, home to indigenous trees, is a national heritage, protected by the government.

The WSTF is a Kenyan State Corporation created as a part of the reform of the Kenyan water sector. It has been mandated by the Water Act 2002 to finance the poor and underserved communities in water and sanitation services as well as stressed catchment areas to improve the water resources management.

At the same time, the annual Standard Chartered Marathon, initially set for end of October in Nairobi has been postponed to 26 November because of the prevailing political tension in Kenya, precipitated by the presidential election re-run held on 26 October.

After the re-run election, three voters filed a petition at the Supreme Court, seeking to nullify the declaration of President Uhuru Kenyatta the winner.

They argue that the election was not free and fair. After hearing the petitions, the Supreme Court will rule on the matter on 20 November.
