Port-Louis, Mauritius, November 13 (Infosplusgabon) - A 15-member delegation from Uganda is presently on a four-day learning tour of Mauritius on the Mauritian experience in law, constitutional democracy and institutional reforms.

At a meeting on Monday morning in Port-Louis with Mauritian government officials, the Ugandan Ambassador Arapta Martinez Mangusho said his country aspires to adopt and replicate the best practices of Mauritius’ successful economic development.

He underlined the importance of the learning visit which will help Uganda to have a better understanding of the sustained economic development in Mauritius which is considered as a reference in Africa based on the various indices where Mauritius tops the chart.

Addressing the Ugandan delegation, Mauritian Ambassador to Uganda Usha Dwarka-Canabady spoke about the various means to connect Mauritius with the rest of Africa while highlighting the importance of collaboration among the several African countries through the Africa strategy devised by Mauritius to boost investment in Africa.

She further dwelt on the Special Economic Zone projects to be initiated in Senegal, Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire and encouraged other African countries especially Uganda to integrate the projects for further development in Africa.

Dwarka-Canabady also encouraged captains of industry and potential investors to participate in the 2nd edition of the African Economic Platform to be held in March 2018 in Mauritius. She said she believes that this will not only serve as an ideal platform to boost trade and investment in Africa but also trigger more economic development across the continent.

The key objective of the Ugandan visit to Mauritius is to have hands-on learning experience on constitutional democracy and rule of law from strategic public institutions.

The visit will focus on developing capacities and tools for key actors with regard to human rights promotion and protection; equitable access to justice; implementation of electoral laws; and holding of free and credible elections.

It is expected that the lessons will eventually enable Uganda to initiate governance reform processes within key participating institutions towards fast realisation of the middle income status.
