Tour du Rwanda 2017: Rwandan Joseph Areruya wins Stage 1

Kigali, Rwanda, November 13  (Infosplusgabon) - Rwandan rider Joseph Areruya, 21, on Monday won the first stage of the Tour du Rwanda cycling race, a distance of 120.3 km from Kigali to Huye in the south of the country.

 

Areruya, who is riding for South African-based club, Dimension Data for Qhubeka, won in a time of 3 hours 12 minutes, 12 seconds.

 

Jean Bosco Nsengimana of Rwanda National Team retained the yellow jersey he took on the opening prologue stage on Sunday.

 

Eritrean Eyob Metkel, who is also from Dimension Data for Qhubeka club, seemed to be cruising to victory until his right foot slipped from his pedal in the last few kilometres, and he arrived 4th.

 

South African Main Kent was second, 1 minute and 8 seconds behind the winner and Natnael Mebrahtom was third.
