Imprimer PDF

Kigali, Rwanda, November 10  (Infosplusgabon) - A South African adventurer, Vilane Subusiso, is hoping to reach the summit of Rwanda's highest mountain, Mount Karisimbi (5,407 Meters), on Friday, for the first- ever climbing exercise that aims at promoting mountain hiking as another tourism product.

Mount Karisimbi is an inactive volcano in the Virunga Mountains on the border between Rwanda, Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo.

The mountain is called Karisimbi, which means “snow” in Kinyarwanda language, for the snow that covers the summit all-year round.

Subusiso, who is accompanied by his female compatriot and climbing partner Sally Grierson, will reach the summit on the Rwandan side of the mountain on Friday evening.

It is expected that a climbing season will be organized each year by authorities of Rwanda National Parks.

Rwandan officials are seeking to introduce hiking as another tourism product because the country is hilly and some tourists like mountain climbing.
