Freetown, Sierra Leone, November 8 (Infosplusgabon) -  The Minister of Labour and Social Security, Martin Teambo, on Tuesday announced that the government has lifted the ban on overseas employment for Sierra Leoneans.

“Our citizens can now travel abroad to seek jobs under the right conditions,” Teambo told the media.

The government placed a ban on overseas job recruitments as a result of high human trafficking cases to Arab states by some companies.

Despite the lifting of the ban, the Minister said only three companies are allowed to recruit workers from Sierra Leone.

Further, women are no longer allowed to travel to countries like Kuwait or Qatar as housemaids. In addition to this, the government is insisting that all workers should travel via flights, and not through road or sea.

Sierra Leone has one of the highest number of unemployed youths in the world, with more than 60% in the country with no jobs.

The lifting of this ban is going to see a fresh clamour for a chance to work abroad.
