Freetown, Sierra Leone, November 5 (Infosplusgabon) -  The University of Sierra Leone (USL) has expelled over 1,000 students across its three campuses for faking payments of fees to write their examinations.

USL Public Relations Officer, Munda Rogers, told Infosplusgabon on Monday that “others were rusticated because of examination malpractices”.

The National Union of Students says it is mediating between the students and the University, but expressed skepticism over the chances of their success.

“Their case is very difficult to fight, because the University had already agreed for them to write their first semester exams free, with the hope that they will pay their fees by the second semester exams,” Abdul Karim, NUS member told Infosplusgabon.

This is the largest rustication that the university has ever carried out.

The new academic year is set to start by the end of November.
