Freetown, Sierra Leone, November 6 (Infosplusgabon) -  Violence broke out on Monday in the central Freetown between supporters of the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) and the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) over a radio talk show.

The fight started after opposition supporters claimed they were marginalized in the talk show at Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC).

Police have intervened but have not given figures on the number of injured people.

This latest outbreak of violence is part of a broader pattern between APC and SLPP supporters in the build up to the 2018 elections.

The SLBC's account of the violence to Infosplusgabon is that, “The Publicity Secretary of the SLPP, Lahai Leema, stormed the radio station to demand an opportunity to reply to statements made by a former member of the party, who claimed that SLPP’s presidential candidate sent people to attack his mother’s house in the provinces.”

SLBC has released a statement cautioning all party officials to manage their attitudes on air.
