Gaborone, Botswana, November 6 (Infosplusgabon) -  President Ian Khama says Botswana will continue to play a critical and influential role in the promotion of global issues.

Khama on Monday said Botswana had remained steadfast in articulating her position with regard to the violation of human rights, poor governance and lack of democratic credibility.

“The principal culprits have been named in the past and we will continue to do so in our press releases,” said Khama giving the State of the Nation Address.

He bemoaned that the United Nations Security Council had on many occasion failed to provide the required leadership on countries fanning conflicts based on ethnic, racial and religious bias or territorial claims.

Khama celebrated the International Criminal Court (ICC) as the only international court of last resort that played a deterrent role in preventing the commission of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.

“In order to demonstrate our unequivocal support for the work of ICC, Botswana recently undertook a significant step by domesticating the Rome Statute and thus making it part of our national laws.”

Khama said his government remained committed to ensure that the country’s foreign relations contributed to national development and the improvement of the living standards of all Batswana by attracting foreign direct investment and other forms of international support.
