Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, October 30 (Infosplusgabon) -  Francois Compaore, younger brother of deposed Burkinabe President Blaise Compaore, arrested in Paris on Sunday morning following an international arrest warrant in the case of the murder of journalist Norbert Zongo, was released on Monday, according to sources.

Since May, Francois Compaore has been subject of an arrest warrant after an investigation in the assassination of the famous investigative journalist Norbert Zongo in December 1998.

His arrest at the airport, Sunday, after flying in from Côte d'Ivoire had sparked reactions within Burkina Faso with most organizations demanding his extradition to Burkina Faso.

According to French judicial sources, Mr. Compaoré has been released under judicial supervision and the French authorities will examine the extradition request.

The Burkinabe authorities have not yet officially responded to this change of situation.

The journalist, who was investigating the murder of the driver of Francois Compaore, was found dead with three of his companions.

His assassination case was dismissed under the Compaoré regime, which was swept by a street unrest in October 2014.

The Compaoré brothers fled Burkina Faso following that popular uprising.
