Freetown, Sierra Leone, October 25 (Infosplusgabon)  -  Police in the Western Area of Freetown, Sierra Leone capital, have arrested four suspects in connection with the murder of an opposition party supporter as violence makes waves in the ongoing campaigns for the March 2018 general election.

Local Unit police commander in the area, Abrose Sofula, has said in a statement that the victim, Alusine Kanu, a supporter of the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) was allegedly stabbed to death at Ogoo Farm community.

SLPP officials, including presidential candidate Maada Bio, have called on the police to be thorough with the investigation, which Sofula said was ongoing.

“We will continue to investigate these people and decide whether to charge them to court or not,” Sofula said.

The murder was seen as part of a growing trend of violence among supporters of various political parties. Party leaders have called for peace during the campaigns.
