Freetown, Sierra Leone, October 20 (Infosplusgabon) - The Ambassador of the Republic of Lebanon to Sierra Leone, Nidal Yahya, has hailed Sierra Leone’s integration policy in the last decade, saying that Freetown granted Sierra Leonean citizenship to more than 650 Lebanese families.

Ambassador Yahya made the statement on Thursday during his farewell remarks at the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

“On behalf of the Government of Lebanon and the Lebanese community in Sierra Leone, I will like to convey my gratitude to the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone for taking good care of Lebanese nationals," said Ambassador Yahya.

The Lebanese community has a century old relationship with Sierra Leone, with majority of them migrating to the West African state for business purposes.

Responding, the Sierra Leonean Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr Samura Kamara, thanked the Ambassador for fostering closer ties with the Middle Eastern country, although Sierra Leone does not have a diplomatic post in Lebanon.

"Despite the huge population of the Lebanese in the country, We do not have an embassy in Lebanon."
