LOME, Togo, October 20 (Infosplusgabon) - Activities are gradually returning to normalcy in Lomé after two days of clashes between security forces and young opposition militants.

Reports say that violence erupted after authorities tried to ban demonstrations on Wednesday and Thursday, sources told Infosplusgabon in the Togolese capital.

The reports say that schools and businesses have reopened and vehicles are back on the streets than they appeared on Wednesday and Thursday.

However, burning tyres and barricades are still emitting smoke.

One person died in Lome from gunshot wounds and none in Sokode, according to Security Minister, Col. Damehame Yark.

But independent sources say the number of the injured is about 100, 40 of them allegedly shot by security personnel.

On Friday, the security forces were seen patrolling streets to thwart any attempt for more demonstrations.

The national human rights commission (CNDH) has called for an end to the violence while the international community has called for dialogue.

Since the demonstrators began demanding political reforms, at least 10 people have died.
