Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, October 19 (Infosplusgabon) - At least 11 people have died of dengue fever in Burkina Faso since the beginning of this year, the government said on Thursday as it planned a targeted space spraying operation from 23 to 30 October.

"To date, there are 4,017 suspect cases, including 11 deaths registered for the whole country," said a statement issued after the Council of Ministers' meeting on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Health ministry has announced measures to address the need for public awareness and pre-positioning of drugs for treatment of severe cases in all hospitals.

Dengue is a tropical disease caused by a virus that is transmitted by mosquitoes and marked by high fever and severe muscle and joint pains.
