Monrovia, Liberia, October 19 (Infosplusgabon)  -  Liberia's National Election Commission (NEC) chair, Jerome Korkoya, on Thursday declared a run-off in the presidential election as no candidate obtained 50 percent plus one vote in the October 10 poll.

Korkoya announced that the final tally showed ex-footballer George Weah of Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) won 596,037 or 38 percent of the votes.

Vice President Joseph Boakai of the ruling Unity Party (UP) came second with 446,716 or 28 percent of the 1.64 million votes cast, the NEC official declared.

He said there were 88,574 invalid votes.

Korkoya then declared campaigning for the second round open and it will close at midnight on November 5.

He cautioned the two parties in the run-off to observe regulations governing political campaigning outlined by the commission.
