Navi Mumbai, India, 18  Outubro (Infosplusgabon) -  Ghana on Wednesday cruised past fellow West Africans, Niger, into the quarter-finals of the 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup with a 2-0 victory in their Round of 16 match played at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

The Ghanaians have waiting for them another West African country, Mali, who thumped Iraq 5-1 on Tuesday.

Ghana dominated play with two-thirds of possession but had to wait until added on time in the first half to go ahead from a penalty kick taken by captain Eric Ayiah. Ayiah was brought down in the Niger penalty box by Niger's Farouk Idrissa and he rose to put Ghana in the lead.

Ayiah missed a second penalty kick in the 86th minute when Niger's goalkeeper Khaled Lawali saved his kick after Idrissa again fouled Emmanuel Toku.

However, the Ghanaians eventually got the second goal when substitute Richard Danso scored in the 90th minute.
