Liberia: Weah keeps lead in Liberian presidential race as 95.6 % polling places report

Monrovia, Liberia, October 15 (Infosplusgabon) - The National Election Commission (NEC) of Liberia Sunday announced the fourth batch of results coming from 95.6 percent of the 5,390 polling places across the country.

 

NEC chairman Jerome Korkoya announced that George Weah of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) garnered 572,453 votes amounting to 39.0 percent, while vice president Joseph Boakai raked in 427,550 votes, representing 29.1 percent.

 

Lawyer Charles Brumskine of the Liberty Party got 144,359 votes, amounting to 9.8 percent; Alexander Cummings of the Alternative National Congress won 104,127 votes, amounting to 7.1 percent and ex-warlord Prince Y. Johnson got 122,564 votes or 7.0 percent.

 

NEC chairman Korkoya said of the 1,550,923 votes already counted, some 84,071 were declared invalid.

 

He said the next announcement of the presidential ballot result could be the final for the presidency.

 

The electoral body did not announce results from the election for the lower house of parliament, citing lack of sufficient materials.
