Monrovia, Liberia, October 14 (Infosplusgabon) - The Liberia National Elections Commission (NEC) on Saturday said with 74% (or 1.19 million) votes cast in the 10 October presidential election processed, former football star George Weah of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) has maintained his steady lead with 39.2 per cent.
It said in preliminary results that incumbent vice president Joseph Boakai of the ruling Unity Party (UP) has 29.6%, Charles Brumskine of Liberty Party (LP) has 9.7%, Alexander Cummings of Alternative National Congress (ANC) has 6.9%, Prince Yormie Johnson (MDR) has 6.6%, Benoni Wilfred Urey (ALP) has 1.6%, and Madella Cooper, the only female candidate has 0.8%.
There were 20 candidates.
The winner must obtain more than 50 percent of the total votes, or there will be a run-off between the first two candidates within two weeks.
