Niamey, Niger, October 13 (Infosplusgabon) - The 4th conference of the African federation of associations and unions of young lawyers (FA-UJA) opened on Friday in the Nigerien capital, Niamey, on the theme "Migration and human trafficking", with representatives from 15 member countries in attendance.

Opening the meeting, the Nigerien Minister of Justice, Marou Amadou, said that Niger had unfortunately become ‘the epicentre of the migratory movement’ and continued facing the consequences of the phenomenon that often cause the death of thousands of migrants in the desert or the Mediterranean in their attempt to get to Europe.

Against those human tragedies, Niger has strongly engaged in moves to stop illegal migration and human trafficking, said the minister.

The minister said Niger has established a legal and institutional framework for the coordination of the fight against the two vices.

"The choice of the theme for this conference is welcomed by Nigerien government," he said, praising the Bar for its involvement in the fight against illegal migration and human trafficking.

Amadou pledged that the Nigerien government will effectively defend victims against traffickers and smugglers.

FA-UJA includes lawyers' associations and unions from 22 African countries.
