2017 FIFA U-17 WC: Ghana, Colombia march on from Group A; USA pushed to third

New Delhi, India, October 12 (Infosplusgabon) - Ghana and Colombia on Thursday reached the next stage of the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup in India after a dramatic final found of Group A matches that saw previous group leaders, USA, pushed to third place.

 

The USA went into the final matches at the top with 6 points while Colombia were second with 3 points, the same as Ghana who were third. India had no point.

 

But in a nail-biting final group matches, Ghana spanked hosts India 4-0 while Colombia humbled the USA 3-1.

 

The results mean all top three countries ended on six points but Ghana climbed to the top of the table on goal difference while Colombia came second and the USA third.

 

Ghana led 1-0 at half time in their match against India at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi through captain Eric Ayiah's goal in the 43rd minute.

 

Ayiah scored again when he found the net in the 52nd minute. A late Ghana surge that saw the West Africans finding the net twice in less than two minutes through Richard Danso in the 86th minute and Emmanuel Toko in the 87th minute gave them an emphatic victory and qualification to the next round.

 

In the US-Colombia match played in Navi Mumbai, Colomba made their intentions known early when Juan Vidal scored in the 3rd minute.

 

The USA equalised in the 24th minute through George Acosta, but Colombia restored their lead in the 67th minute through Juan Penaloza and drove the final nail in the coffin of the USA with an 87th minute goal by Deiber Caicedo.
