Belgium: EU calls all Kenyan parties to back electoral commission ahead of presidential polls

Brussels, Belgium,  October 11 (Infosplusgabon) - The European Union (EU) on Wednesday appealed to all concerned parties to back the electoral commission in Kenya, ahead of the new presidential election, due for 26 October, a communiqué from by the European foreign action office (EFAO) said.

In the communiqué, EU says that it will follow closely the new developments in Kenya in the perspective of the new election following the invalidation by the country’s Supreme Court of last 8 August’s presidential poll.

The communiqué says "it is important and decisive" that all political actors respect the independence of the electoral commission in holding the new election, all parties urged to engage seriously with the electoral commission in dialogue on the process, procedures and to back the proceedings.

It said that Mr Uhuru Kenyatta, incumbent president, remains the only candidate as his rival opponent, Odinga has decided to withdraw from the presidential race.
