Tripoli, Libya, October 11 (Infosplusgabon) - The German ambassador in Libya, Christian Bock, has reaffirmed his country’s support for the action plan by the special envoy of the UN Secretary general in Libya.

The German Ambassador restated the German position in separate talks on Tuesday with the chairman of the presidential council of the Libyan government of national accord, Fayez al-Sarraj and the general commander of the Libyan armed forces, Marshall Khalifa Haftar.

The talks with Fayez al-Sarraj and Marshall Haftar focused particularly on the latest political developments in Libya, according to a communiqué issued on Wednesday by the information office of the presidential council.

During the talks with Mr al-Sarraj in Tripoli, Mr Bock reaffirmed Germany's support to the movement order proposed by the UN envoy in Libya, Ghassan Salame, which focused on the amendment of the political deal and the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections.

The Libyan Parliament on Tuesday adopted the amendment of the controversial Article 8 of the Libyan political deal by virtue of which the posts of military responsibilities will be placed under the command of the Presidential Council of the national government with the approval of MPs.

Mr al-Sarraj praised the German government for its support to achieve consensus in Libya, calling for the quick activation of the programmes discussed in the previous meetings focusing on services and infrastructure.

The German diplomat met with Marshall Haftar at the headquarters of the general command in the city of Benghazi. He was accompanied by a European Union political adviser in charge of the Libyan dossier at the German ministry of foreign affairs, according to a communiqué from the armed forces, which did not give details of the talks.

The Action plan for Libya, announced by Salame at a high level event on 20 September in New York spells out three stages over a year.

It aims to relaunch the political process and to modify the Libyan political accord signed on 17 December 2015, under the aegis of the United Nations between representatives of the House of representatives in Tobruk and the National General Congress in Tripoli (NGC-outgoing Parliament).
