Khartoum, Sudan, October 8 (Infosplusgabon) -  Sudan’s  President Omar Bashir on Sunday issued a Republican Decree renewing the ceasefire in the country for another period till 31 December 2017.

The decree said the extension is aimed to prepare the climate for the coming negotiations “within the framework of the keenness of the government of the Sudan” to achieve peace and stability and to devote all energies to dealing with development challenges.

The current ceasefire is due to expire 30 October, while the government and rebels from South Kordufan and Blue Nile regions are expected to meet this month for talks on a permanent ceasefire.

One of the conditions set by the U.S. Administration to revoke economic sanctions against Sudan was maintaining the cessation of hostilities and not faltering on issues of insistence to achieve peace in the country.
