KIGALI, Rwanda, October 3 (Infosplusgabon) -  Rwandan flag carrier, RwandAir Express, on Tuesday said it has launched a new route from Kigali to Senegal's capital city, Dakar, according to an official statement made available to Infosplusgabon in Kigali.

The first flight on the wide-bodied A330 aircraft on the route took off from Kigali early Tuesday and landed at the Leopord Sedar Senghor international airport in Dakar later in the afternoon.

"The vibrant capital city of Senegal joins our fast growing network effective [Tuesday]," the airline said.

From Kigali as its hub, RwandAir currently reaches out to 17 cities in West, East and Southern Africa and the Middle East,

The airline which has up to now acquired 10 airplanes plans to have a fleet of about 20 aircraft by 2020.

The carrier has grown from a virtual carrier leasing its entire fleet, to operating its own which now consists of two B737-700s, two B737-800s, two CRJ-900s, two Dash 8-400s, and two A330s.

It is expected that RwandAir will fly to Cotonou (Benin) via Abidjan (Cote d'Ivoire) three times a week.

In May this year, the airline which has already launched direct flights to and from London Gatwick, has recently  unveiled the launch of its new destination in New York as part of the airline’s continued expansion strategy.
