CAIRO, Egypt, October 2 (Infosplusgabon) -  Three countries - Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia and Morocco - have submitted bids to host the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after Africa's football governing body withdrew the hosting rights from Kenya.

"At the end of the deadline for submission of applications on Saturday 30 September 2017 at 23:59, three federations had submitted their bids to the General Secretariat of the Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) for the organisation of the 2018 Total African Nations Championship, namely, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia and Morocco," CAF said in a statement on its website.

At its meeting in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, on 23 September, 2017, CAF Executive Committee decided to complete the process of selecting a new host country for the tournament scheduled for January 2018, within 15 days, after failed to meet the requirements.

Total CHAN is a competition that brings together 16 national teams made up of players selected in their national championships. The 5th edition is to be held from 12 January to 4 February 2018.

CAF, withdrawing the hosting rights from Kenya, said: "With an overwhelming majority of the members present, it was decided to withdraw the hosting rights of the competition from Kenya in the light of accumulated delays from reports of the various inspection missions conducted in the country, the last of which took place from 11 to 17 September 2017."

CAF then instructed its Acting General Secretary to "immediately open a bidding process for a new host".

CAf said only one out of the four venues earmarked for the event had met the requisite hosting standards during the last inspection mission.

Angola, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Sudan, Uganda and Zambia have qualified for the 2018 finals. Kenya completed the line-up as the host nation.
