FREETOWN,  Sierra Leone, September 26 (Infosplusgabon) - The Chief Justice of Sierra Leone, Abdulai Cham, has confirmed that the judiciary will set up an electoral court in the country ahead of the 2018 elections.

His decision came after the National Electoral Commission (NEC) requested the establishment of such a court to prosecute people involved in multiple registration for the forthcoming elections.

“In the coming weeks, we would train judges on electoral law and establish electoral courts in the country,” Justice Cham said on a Radio programme Tuesday morning.

After the completion of voter registration in the country, NEC said their system flagged 1,539 people who registered more than once. The Commission have not hidden their desire to prosecute offenders.

Electoral watchdog, National Elections Watch, has welcomed the move, saying it would strengthen NEC itself as a commission.
