South Africa: South Africa's richest businessman nominated by Forbes

CAPE TOWN,  South Africa, September 22 (Infosplusgabon) -  South African mining magnate Patrice Motsepe has been nominated as one of the 100 greatest living business minds in the world by Forbes.

 

To celebrate its 100th anniversary, the global publication published an series of ideas from 100 leading entrepreneurs.

 

Motsepe who joined Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and Rupert Murdoch said that while he was honoured, there are many other Africans who should have been nominated.

 

“I am a product of encouragement, motivation and inspiration by many South Africans (black and white) on the continent,” he said.

 

Motsepe who was born in 1962 earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Swaziland and a law degree from the University of the Witwatersrand. He became the first black partner in leading law firm Bowman Gilfillan in 1994, the same year Nelson Mandela was elected President.

 

He is the founder and executive chairman of African Rainbow Minerals, which has interests in gold, ferrous metals, base metals, and platinum. He also sits on several company boards including being the non-executive chairman of Harmony Gold.

 

In 2012, Motsepe was named South Africa's richest man, with an estimated wealth of US$2.4 billion.

 

In 2003, he became the owner of leading South African football club Mamelodi Sundowns.

 

The National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NAFCN) on Friday saluted Motsepe for the achievement.
