South Africa: Obiang's Cape Town home to be auctioned

CAPE TOWN, South Africa, September 14 (Infosplusgabon) - The Cape Town assets of Equatorial Guinea’s Vice President Teodorin Obiang will be auctioned to settle a legal wrangle with a South African businessman.

The Western Cape High Court had directed the deputy sheriff of Cape Town to attach assets in Obiang’s luxury home in the upmarket surburb of Bishoscourt on the slopes of Table Mountain.

Obiang is currently embroiled in a court case in Paris, France, for allegedly embezzling public funds from his impoverished country. His foreign interests include two houses in South Africa, a compound in Malibu, California, and a home in Paris.

Obiang, who is the son of Equatorial Guinea's President Teodoro Obiang Mbasogo, has lost a case brought by Daniel van Rensburg, a South African who was jailed in the notorious Black Beach prison in Equatorial Guinea from 2013 to 2015.

Van Rensburg sued Obiang for wrongful detention.
