Russia set to relaunch sport cooperation with Congo

Brazzaville, Congo, December 3 (Infosplusgabon) - The ambassador of Russia to Congo, Gueorgui Tchepik, Wednesday expressed the determination of his country to relaunch its sports cooperation at the end of talks with the Congolese minister of Sports and Physical Education, Hugues Ngouélondélé.

"We discussed the possibility to relaunch cooperation in terms of sports between the Federation of Russia and Congo. We are experts in several domains of cooperation but sport was not part of those domains. That’s why my ambition is to relaunch that cooperation. We will see how to proceed," said the Russian diplomat.

In another development, the two personalities also shared ideas on the current situation of the international Olympic Committee (IOC) and the renewal of the governing bodies of the international association of amateur boxing (IAAB) to come.

IAAB is the body governing English amateur boxing internationally. It meets every two years for the world championships. Congo is among African countries affiliated to that organization. The voice of Congo therefore counts in the election of the new chairman.

It is worth pointing out that since June 2019, the international Olympic Committee (IOC) has approved the suspension of IAAB. The association was deprived of the organisation of the Tokyo Olympic boxing tournament because of the serious problems of governance.

The IOC recommended the suspension of IAAB while maintaining boxing in the programmes of the Tokyo Olympic Games all the more because the boxing qualifying competitions will be directly managed by the IOC.
