Nouakchott, Mauritania, November 30 (Infosplusgabon) - Forty widows, orphans, relatives of black military victims of extrajudicial executions in 1990-1991, and activists of various support movements, arrested on Saturday on the sidelines of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the independence of Mauritania, were released on Sunday afternoon, Infosplusgabon learned from sources.

They were arrested as they tried to deliver to the Mauritanian President, Mohamed Cheikh El Ghazouani, a document calling for the repeal of an amnesty passed in May 1993 covering the alleged perpetrators of these crimes.

One of those arrested said: "Thirty-three comrades and I are free after 24 hours in police custody. The struggle continues."
