Benin: Two prison officials arrested after escape from Akpro-Missérété prison

Cotonou, Benin, November 22 (Infosplusgabon) - Governors of the civil prisons of Akpro-Missérété, about 40 km from the capital, have been arrested following the escape late October of two inmates from Akpro-Missérété prison, a high-security prison, judicial sources reported here Sunday.

In addition to the two officials, who were suspended only a few days after the escape, about 20 other officers from the two prisons were arrested following an investigation by the Court for the Repression of Economic Crimes and Terrorism (CRIET).

If complicity in the escape of the two detainees is established, according to the Beninese penal code, these officials could face sentences ranging from six months to three years and fines.
