Nouakchott, Mauritania, October 30 (Infosplusgabon) - In a statement released on Friday, the Mauritanian government has condemned Thursday's terrorist attack on the Notre-Dame church in Nice, a city in southern France, saying it was "a barbaric act".

"The Islamic Republic of Mauritania has learned with great sadness the news of the terrorist attack against the faithful of the Notre-Dame church in Nice, on the day when the Islamic nation is commemorating the birth of Prophet Mohamed, who brought to the world a sense of mercy and the principles of tolerance, and who worked for the establishment of peace and brotherhood among human beings, insisting on respect and honor for man, his self-preservation, as well as the rejection of murder, violence and sedition", the statement read.

Mauritania condemned the attack, saying any aggression against innocent people in the name of religion, is not acceptable.

It denounced all forms of terrorism and incitement to hatred and racism.

It pledged its full support for friendly relations and cooperation with France, saying that this should always be based on the principle of mutual friendship and respect.

The knife attack by a Tunisian national left three persons dead.
