Dar es Salaam, Tanzania,  October 31 (Infosplusgabon) – Tanzania’s opposition presidential candidate, Tundu Lissu, said on Thursday that his party rejects the results being released by the National Electoral Commission (NEC), saying Wednesday's poll was "not free and fair".

Addressing journalists in Dar es Salaam, Lissu claimed that votes were being stuffed at some polling stations dishonestly after opposition agents were not allowed to the units within the required time.

“We reject the results currently being announced by the National Electoral Commission as they are not anchored in law and are a mockery of the will of the people of Tanzania who turned out in large numbers to vote,” said Lissu who contested the presidency on the main opposition Chadema party ticket.

He called on the international community to condemn what happened in Tanzania’s general election and ensure that the country “abides by the international norms and standards“.

As the count of vote continues, it is clear that the CCM party is heading for a landslide win in presidential and parliamentary elections.

Initial results announced by the National Electoral Commission (NEC) have given the CCM flag bearer, incumbent president John Magufuli, over 80 percent of the vote. CCM has so far won 190 seats out of 264 in the parliamentary election.

The national electoral body is expected to announce the full result within the next 24 hours.
