Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, October 31 (Infosplusgabon) - Campaigning for Burkina Faso's presidential and legislative elections on 22 November began on Saturday and will end on 20 November.

Thirteen candidates, including the incumbent President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, are contesting for the presidency while 10,652 candidates are competing for 127 seats at the National Assembly.

These are being supported by 96 political parties, five political alliances and 25 groups of independents.

Some 6.49 million voters are eligible to vote at 21,155 polling stations.

To ensure a peaceful campaign, the political actors on Monday signed a "pact of good conduct".

The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Newton Ahmed Barry said: "It is strictly forbidden for any candidate or activist of political parties or formations to use defamation, insults or any act of provocation that may taint the morality and serenity of the election campaign."

The campaign is taking place at a time when several regions in the country are plagued by terrorist attacks.
