London, UK, October 4 (Infosplusgabon) - Shura Kitata of Ethiopia on Sunday won the 2020 London Marathon in a thrilling finish as he sprinted away from Kenya's Vincent Kipchumba and his Ethiopian compatriot Sisay Lemma in the last few metres of the race. His time was 2:05:41.
Kipchumba clocked 2.05:42 while Lemma was third with a time of 2:05:45.
The three men was bunched together as they came into the home straight, but Kitata finally burst away to win the race.
Not too far off were two other Ethiopians — Mosinet Geremew and Mule Wasihum. Geremew came in at 2:06:04 while Wasihun's time was 2:06:08.
Kenyan World record holder and favourite Eliud Kipchoge came in a distant eighth with a time of 2:06:49, far below his world record of 2:01:39.
In the women's event, Kenyan Brigid Kosgei defended her title, winning in 2:18.58 ahead of American Sara Hall who clocked 2:22.01.
Kenyan Ruth Chepngetich was third in 2:22:05.
