Tripoli, Libya, October 4  (Infosplusgabon) - Algerian experts have arrived in Libya to help maintain the Khoms power plant, 120 km east of Tripoli, following a request from the National Accord Government authorities, the Libyan General Electricity Company (GECOL) announced on Friday.

According to the statement, this is to help maintain the Khoms power units with a capacity of 500 megawatts in order to alleviate the suffering of citizens due to frequent power cuts.

The technical team arrived on Thursday evening and immediately set off for the Khoms plant.

Libya is facing an electricity production deficit of up to 2,500 megawatts which has led to untimely cuts in this summer period known for its peaks in electricity consumption.

This situation has provoked discontent among Libyan citizens who staged protests demanding the dismissal of former officials of the Libyan General Electricity Company, slammed in a report by the Audit Office, a public body responsible for controlling the state finances.
