Ziguinchor, Senegal, October 4  (Infosplusgabon) - A lion, which walks freely on the streets of Oussouye, in Casamance, southern Senegal, is causing panic among the inhabitants of the area.

The information was given by the people of this border area with Guinea-Bissau, which is characterized by very dense tropical forests.

According to the inhabitants, the lion walks day and night and has been seen in several localities in the area, effectively forcing residents to stay away from the bush for fear of being attacked.

"Even if it has not attacked people, the population remains very cautious," they said.

According to analysts, the situation comes at a bad time since the populations are fully focused on farmlands.

The presence of the lion has been confirmed by Lieutenant Bourama Mandian, the conservator of the National Park of Lower Casamance, located a stone's throw from the Guinea-Bissau border.

According to him, the park had alerted the people of the presence of the lion since mid-September.

Herders and villagers have also reported sighting the lion.

Felines, another cat specie, have been reported missing from Casamance forests.
