German ambassador calls for peaceful transfer of power in Libya

Tripoli, Libya, September 20 (Infosplusgabon) –  German Ambassador in Libya, Oliver Owcza, has hailed the announcement by the Libyan Presidential Council Chairman, Fayez al-Sarraj, on his intention to hand over duties to the new executive authority supposed to be formed by the national dialogue committee, and called on "all Libyan parties to ensure legitimate and peaceful transfer of power."

 

A communiqué issued by the press office of the Presidential Council said that the announcement was made during an audience between the Chairman of the Presidential Council and the German Ambassador on Sunday.

 

 

 

The two men agreed on the importance of acting in accord with the results of the Berlin Conference, which identified three paths to resolve the Libyan crisis -- ”security, economic and political’’, leading to parliamentary and presidential elections.

 

 

 

On the other hand, the meeting discussed the dossier on bilateral cooperation and the contribution of German companies to projects for the reconstruction of Libya.

 

 

 

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Libyan High Council of State, Khaled al-Mechri, discussed with Ambassador Olivier Owcza, the proposed initiatives for ceasefire.

 

 

 

Meeting in Tripoli, Mr al-Mechri and Mr Owcza discussed "the evolution of the political and military situation in Libya", according to a communiqué issued by the High Council of State which added that the two parties also discussed ‘’opportunities to resume political dialogue so as to create  appropriate environment for its success and Germany’s role in making the political process move forward".
