Cotonou, Benin, September 20 (Infosplusgabon) - In the second quarter of this year, Benin recorded an increase in legume prices compared to the previous quarter, according to a survey by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Analysis (INSAE).

"The producer price index for pulses is 129.6 in the second quarter of 2020, an increase of 13.3% over the previous quarter," according to the Quarterly Bulletin of the Agricultural Producer Price Index published by the INSAE.

This increase derives from the increases in the producer price indices for pigeon pea (+57.4%) and cowpea/bean (+17.1%) respectively, the institute pointed out.

Year-on-year, there was a 15.2% drop in the index due to the fall in the price indices for cowpea/bean (-16.3%) and voandzou (-7.9%).

The index's reference population is the set of so-called primary markets, which correspond to markets located very close to production sites and where product prices are collected monthly by the former National Office for Food Security Support (Onasa).
