Tripoli, Libya, September 20 (Infosplusgabon) - A total of 128 illegal migrants aboard several inflatable boats were rescued off the coast of Libya by coast guard patrols from the Interior ministry of the government of national accord.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Tripoli Anti-Illegal Immigration Board announced that it received 128 illegal migrants from the deportation office, who were on the boats.

The same source statement said that the migrants, who were received by the Body to Combat Illegal Immigration, are of different nationalities: Arabs, Africans and Asians. They were given accommodation services.

According to statistics from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the voluntary humanitarian return programme in the first quarter of 2020, helped 1,466 stranded migrants to return home from Libya, while nearly 9,800 migrants returned to 34 countries of origin in Africa and Asia last year under the same programme.

As both a destination and transit country for illegal immigration to Europe, Libya has faced a large flow of illegal migrants in recent years, estimated at more than one million people waiting for the opportunity to board a makeshift boat across the Mediterranean to Europe.
