Egyptian, Moroccan FMs discuss Libyan crisis

Cairo, Egypt, September 8 (Infosplusgabon) - The Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, on Monday had a telephone conversation with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Chokri, focusing on the latest developments related to the Libyan crisis and joint efforts to achieve a political settlement.

 

According to a statement by the spokesperson of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, these talks are in reaction to the mutual will for coordination of efforts for a political settlement.

 

The statement said Chokri expressed his gratitude to Bourita for his willingness to intensify this coordination regarding Morocco's efforts in this direction.

 

The Egyptian Minister reiterated Egypt's consistent position to work towards a political solution that preserves Libya's sovereignty and territorial integrity and meets the aspirations of the Libyan people for peace and security, while preserving its resources and the fight against all manifestations of terrorism, extremism and foreign interference.

 

The two ministers also discussed, according to the statement, current initiatives aimed at sustaining the ceasefire and achieving a comprehensive political settlement of the crisis.

 

In this regard, they agreed to continue consultation and coordination and to intensify contacts with Libyan actors, international partners, the UN Special Envoy, the African Commission, as well as within the Arab League.
