Tripoli, Libya, September 5 (Infosplusgabon) - Members of the Libyan High Council of State, a consultative assembly based in Tripoli, have spoken out against the "unilateral appointment" of its representatives to the planned meeting in Morocco with the Libyan Parliament on the settlement of the political crisis in the country.

In a statement issued late Friday, 24  members of the Council "firmly rejected and condemned the attempt to reduce the High Council of State in the person of its president or the office of the presidency and some officials and advisers."

For them, "the unilateral designation of a committee to represent the High Council at the 5+5 meeting to be held in Morocco to meet the committee representing the Parliament, is a violation of the regulation that organises the work of the Council, and it is a procedure that cannot be accepted because it does not represent the High Council of State."

"We absolutely reject it", they stated in a communiqué, stressing that this position reflects the awareness by members of the Council of the seriousness of the stage the country is going through and the importance of the participation of all the members of the Council to reach a consensus among themselves to resolve the problems and obstacles that the population has been suffering for years.

Council members who signed the statement also stressed the importance of the "principle of equality" among them in participating in decision-making, especially with regard to the entire nation, specifying that this principle is one of the "untouchable and unrejectable foundations".

Morocco is seeking to reunite the parties to the Libyan conflict, through an initiative that has been in preparation since last February, with the aim of reaching a revised version of the Libyan Skhirat Political Agreement.

Last July, Rabat welcomed the presidents of the High Council of State and the House of Representatives (Parliament), respectively, Khaled al-Machri and Aguila Salah, without a direct meeting between them.

During the emergency meeting of the Arab League held on 23 June, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita revealed the broad outlines of a new Moroccan initiative to find an Arab solution to the Libyan crisis, based on the establishment of a small team of Arab countries concerned by the Libyan dossier, which would develop a strategic vision for joint Arab action in resolving the crisis.

The Moroccan initiative revealed by Mr. Bourita is based on the need to open up to all Libyan parties, to listen to them and bring their points of view closer together.
