Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, September 5 (Infosplusgabon) - The Commonwealth Secretariat is hosting the 2020 Regional Conference for Anti-Corruption Agencies in Africa, taking place from 7-9 September 2020.

A meeting of the Association of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Commonwealth Africa has taken place annually since it was set up by the Commonwealth Secretariat in 2011.

According to a press release issued by the Commonwealth Secretariat, Rwanda was due to host this year’s conference, but it was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic and is now taking place virtually.

The theme for the conference is Assessing Anti-Corruption and Asset Recovery Efforts in Africa.

Noting that it is 10 years to when the UN Sustainable Development Goals are to be achieved as part of the 2030 agenda, the secretariat said SDG 16 incorporates specific targets relating to reducing corruption, bribery, and illicit financial flows.

“The conference will therefore provide a timely assessment of what progress has been made in Africa,” the press statement said.

Heads of Commonwealth Africa anti-corruption bodies will give presentations during the conference.

Other prominent speakers will include experts from the Commonwealth Secretariat, UN Office on Drugs and Crime, Transparency International, African Development Bank, World Bank, Grant Thornton UK LLP, and Fair Financial Investigations in Canada

Ghana High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland, Papa Owusu-Ankomah, will chair the conference. Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland will deliver a keynote address to open the event
